The One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream recipe has been around for a while now, but you know how things work in the world of a “healthy ice cream” nonbeliever (read “myself”)! I just had to make it and try to see what all that buzz is about.
HEALTHY AND CREAMY ONE INGREDIENT BANANA ICE CREAM
Without faffing about – my verdict is: YES! I made it and it works! It has the perfect consistency of ice cream and tastes just wonderful. Anybody with diet restrictions like: gluten free, dairy free, vegan, Paleo should try it.
It really is the perfect healthy ice cream for kids and yes, they can have another scoop if they want to! With all the potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, B and natural sugar,One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream is a tasty AND healthy treat.
Whether you buy a bag of frozen banana or just slice a fresh one and freeze, banana is the sole factor of why the One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream is so lovely and creamy. And I mean creamy in the creamiest of creamy ways – delicate, smooth, light, but rich. More than that – it is absolutely delicious, pure banana flavoured melting heaven, but you can also flavour it to your liking too!
I really enjoyed Nutella and rum plus raisin, but the purest of pure and healthiest of healthy will always be the One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream, with banana and nothing else.
Something worth remembering is that if you mix the creamy banana with other fresh or frozen, but juicy fruit, the overall creaminess will be affected. I actually made banana and strawberry ice cream in 1:1 ratio and although it tasted lovely it was not as creamy as banana only (because of the juice in strawberries).
The recipe for One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream couldn’t be simpler!
- 2 peeled bananas - about 7 oz (200g)
- Unless you have frozen bananas simply slice the fresh ones into 1 inch pieces and place in a freezer for about 2 hours.
- Remove from the freezer and using a food processor, blend until smooth and creamy.
- Transfer your creamed banana into a plastic container and freeze for about 4h or until solid.
To make Nutella Banana Ice Cream simply add 2 tbsp Nutella per every banana to the blender, process until creamy. Transfer your creamed banana into a plastic container and freeze for about 4h or until solid.
To make Rum and Raisin Banana Ice Cream add 1 tbsp dark or white rum and 1 tsp honey per every banana to the food processor with the frozen bananas. Process until creamy. Transfer your creamed banana and rum mixture into a plastic container. Scatter 1 tsp chopped sultanas per every banana; using a spoon, fold them into the mixture before freezing. (You can soak the chopped sultanas for about 15 min in hot water first to plump them up a bit, if you like.) Freeze for about 4h or until solid.
To make Strawberry Banana Ice Cream add 3.5 oz (100g) fresh or frozen strawberries per every banana to the food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. Transfer your creamed banana and strawberry mixture into a plastic container and freeze for about 4h or until solid.
Other easy flavourings you can use per every banana: 1 tbsp Baileys liqueur, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp chocolate chips, 1 tbsp peanut butter + ⅛ tsp sea salt.
And now excuse me, please – my ice cream is melting!
