There are snacks and dishes, which regardless of how old we are, we’ll always love. This is because they found their way to our hearts in the early childhood years. To me the favourite one of all times on the school lunch list will always be the Fresh Strawberry Sauce Pasta.
You can easily prepare the Fresh Strawberry Sauce Pasta in a spare 10 minutes and leave for your little one in the fridge to have later or pack it in the lunch box. So simple and so tasty, and kids love it!
Fresh Strawberry Sauce Pasta, with its juicy, sweet, strawberry punch is probably the only meal that I remember kids would queue to have seconds of at my school! Some cheeky monkeys would lick the sauce off and go back with the plate full of pasta (from the previous serving) for more sauce before me! Grrrr…
The second favourite school lunch dish was pierogi with blueberries or strawberries and a sweet sauce. This, in both cases, is essentially fresh fruit, natural yoghourt or sour cream and sugar sauce plus some sort of pasta meal – tested and kids approved equation for a delicious lunch and happy tummies.
I remember that the first appearance of the Fresh Strawberry Sauce Pasta on the school lunch menu was almost like a symbol of the summer being just around the corner and that equals the summer holiday being closer than ever! Happy, strawberry days!
Fresh Strawberry Sauce Pasta – 10 minute lunch that kids love
The sauce is a mash of only 3 ingredients: fresh strawberries, natural yoghourt or sour cream and caster sugar. I used to have it on its own as a treat, at my gran’s farm, provided I went to pick the strawberries (they are in season in June and July in Poland) from the field myself. As you can imagine, there were as many strawberries landing in my mouth as in the basket! “One for me and one for the basket… no, one for me NOW and one for me for later… ok, one for me and one more for me too…” Eh, the sweet childhood memories!
- 1 serving of pasta or rice - cooked to the instruction on the packaging, drained and cooled
- 7 fresh strawberries (and more for serving)
- 3 tbsp natural yoghourt or sour cream
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- Using a fork, mash the strawberries with sugar, mix in the sour cream and pour over pasta or rice.

Yes, there are many favourites of mine, but I just can’t help loving the Italian kitchen!
